WELCOME

The horses that call Grit and Gratitude Farmstead home are a diverse herd including Thoroughbreds, Percherons, Belgian drafts, and a mini. They have come to us as rescues and from re-homing. Ages run between 4 and 20. All have a job - they help change lives.

Horses have proven to make a difference in the lives of the people they touch. Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is the opportunity for individuals to work with horses to bring about change in their lives. Grit and Gratitude is pleased to offer individual, family and group sessions where humans can work with the horses in an interactive setting.  Want to know more check our Services Page. Why horses

They have traits that encourage us to be open, ready to discover more about ourselves, and face the future with a sense of purpose.   Horses do not lie.  There is nothing artificial about a horse.  They don’t care who is looking at them, or what the person thinks about them. Horses make no judgments.  They value and accept each person as they are.  Horses listen when you speak.  They will look at you and, regardless of your fears, accept you for who you are.

Most sessions include time with horses.  Horses have been used to bring about change in many areas:  those battling disease, families struggling with relationships, individuals overcoming addictions, those handling trauma, facing  anxiety, PTSD,  those with autism or Asperger’s  and others just unable to cope with day to day life.

Individual Sessions

One-on-one time with an Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach. The role of the Coach is to help others to improve, develop, learn new skills, find personal success, achieve aims and to manage life change and personal challenges.  Each session will involve some discussion time, horse/human interaction and debriefing.  Each week with the horses help, new discoveries will be made, exciting opportunities realized and steps taken toward a goal.   Sessions are  usually once a week lasting for 6 to 8 weeks.

Family or small group sessions

Coaches also work with a family, extended family, friends, or small organizations where a third party can provide the vehicle to bring about understanding and unity. Sessions can be targeted to rebuilding families, improving communication, strengthening marriages, dealing with children with at-risk behavior, understanding the dynamics of extended families, or help families deal with divorce, loss of family members, or critical illness. The horses are part of every session, and often become the vehicle that opens up dialogue. Each session will identify  particular areas that needs addressing, and steps to finding solutions. Sessions are  usually once a week lasting for 6 to 8 weeks.

Trail of the heart

This is a six-week program  for adults who desire change in their lives.  Each session is 2 hours in length and  includes  homework that encourages reflection.

Life is a journey. How we travel through life, and the paths we take, are choices each of us must make for ourselves. Not one can force the choice upon us, no one can chose for us, and no one can relieve us of the responsibility of making that choice.

Trail of the Heart is a program based on the certain knowledge that you have within you every skill, attitude, quality, and characteristic needed to succeed in life and to create for yourself an incredible future.

The program is modeled after the travels of yesteryear. In olden days, a traveller felt drawn to new and exciting destinations, dissatisfied with where they were in life and the desire to have something better. Like the journeys of our ancestors, when one leg of the journey is complete, you construct a camp.

There are six camps, each building on the previous camp until you reach your destination. You will receive a booklet for each camp with questions, discussion topics and some take home thoughts to ponder.

Participants have reported that, after taking the program, they were finally able to move forward, establish and reach their goals. “Life changing” is one of the common comments shared by participants
